Hopscotch

Must have chalk to mark the sidewalk with squares in a line numbered to nine hop one hop two then put down the other shoe together on three and four then hop, hop twice more at seven and eight both feet are straight last hop to nine and done this time ... but wait, there's more to create a score find something that if you toss it lands flat like a coin or a top from a bottle of pop which you'll place on the numbers you face from the first square as you place it there then hop up to nine and back again back to two and that is when you'll pick up the top on one foot when you stop start again and toss to square two as you go all through but, if you should fall you'll start over all. Laughing and hopping what a memory does ring of a warm spring day and such fun to play.

Ah the joys of youth. I remember stickball, stoopball, Chinese handball. Nice rhyme scheme! I have been to San Fransisco myself and was quite impressed. Thank you for your kind words. Yours Matthew Anish

If I were a kid again, I'd want to be a kid in the same era. We had imagination instead of electronics. We had friendships lasting lifetimes. We had hopscotch and chase tag, king of the mountain and spin the bottle (my favorite). Nice write Sue. Vince

You know believe it or not I have hop scotch story Sue - After my back surgery and i was getting around again i went to get daughter from school and her and her friends were playing hop scotch and they talked me into trying it, well when i went to land on my right leg it just collapsed from under me and i crashed to the ground and learned at that moment that i have permanent nerve damage in my right leg - Great poem Sue - God Bless, MJ

Yes! This one brings back wonderful childhood memories. I don't think I'd be to good at it any more. The rhyme gives a light feel to this poem which works with the idea of fun. Thank you for sharing this day brightener with us and for your kind comments. Keep on writing! Karen

Sue, this lovely verse does, indeed, evoke wonderful memories of childhood. I wonder if the Nintendo generation knows what they are missing. Well done. Thanks for sharing, Carolyn
