Holiday Get Together

A hawk flew high, soaring...
a breathtaking dive and dip
(Watched I with jealous
eye). Came a great aerial flip,
leveled to precision glide --
my wing-full heart sighed:
Oh, to have wings!

Short time later, I was indoors,
at the dinner table. It was Thanksgiving~
Oh~ God, thank you for wings!

Hi Joe, You could have some delicious trout for Thanksgiving. In Malta we used to celebrate St Martin's Day instead, with fruits and nuts. Forget the wings. Buy a fishing rod :)

Hooks, a mercury feast~ no thank you! Tasty, but not as uplifting. Thank you, Victor. No one needs animal protein to survive. A myth.

Thank you, Andrea; just written for a laugh. Would not want to be a comedian in this hypersensitive age. But we are what we eat, as much as what we drink and think.

Sad but true, we eat what we love. I've given up red meat, hope to give up fowl too.

I was a pure vegetarian for years. Can't hurt. People think that, it is natural to develop high blood pressure after a certain age. I am long retired, and have better blood pressure than many athletes.

I really enjoyed the humorous twist at the end, dear Joe. Though you lamented over the loss of wings, on Thanksgiving Day at the dinner table, you enjoyed chicken/turkey wings. :)

God allows us to have what we crave...good and unfortunate at the same time. Thank you, Valsa. Have a great writing day.

You have just crushed the 'Truth Detector, Joe. ... as we humans hang or heads in shame... So much 'food for thought' here.

- Thanksgiving is not something we celebrate, Joe ...I let the hawk and turkey use their wings for what they are meant for...smile :) - hugs

Hi Anne; thank you for commenting. Strictly an American holiday, as is 4th of July. Turkey's hide, and I don't blame them.
