Heroes
In a time of sorrow and mourning
when darkness covers the morning
when faces ars covered in suffering
when merry bells stop ringing
when voices speak of hurt and despair
and cries of the bereaved fills the air
In a time of bloodshed and massacre
when war is preached instead of peace
when meals turn sour
and there is no more happy hour
when we live in fear that
every meal might be our last supper
In a time when
we hold hands
share each others sorrow
cause there might not be a tomorrow
then a hero arises from where we call nowhere
and shows us somewhere
Heroes are,
saviours of the people
ambassadors of peace
restorers of hope
bearers of light
carriers of joy
hercules of our myth
People born to lead
and not to flee
If i could turn back the hands of time
to the time before my birth
i would ask the creator
to make me a Nelson Mandela
or a ken saro wiwa
or a Mary Slessor
or an Okonkwo when things fall apart
people who have carried the
burdens of their people
and not shown deaf ears to their cries
Let us all stand in ovation
and raise our glasses in celebration
and in adoration of our heroes
let us tell their stories to the younger generation
Let their legacies remain in our hearts
Let us celebrate our heroes.
