Her Name Was Winter

She danced over my desires like a light footed ballerina
tapping into my longings like an intuitive child of the seventies
Every drip of icicle sent shivers down my spine
and so I wrote her a letter, asking her to  quietly go away;

She answered me, with a whip of wind and a halo from the sun
her summons were refreshing, like a snowflake on the tongue
Although I begged her to release her seasonal lurk on me
she gave me stretchy moments filled with February days

She made me long for sunshine five hours every day
and as I synced my calendar, March arrived Hurray Hurray !
Every hill of white and every snowflake bright
did eventually, fade away ....

She danced into my birthday month and gifted me the spring
and as I sat on my veranda I could hear the birdies sing
Every touch of her was gone at least for one more year
and so I wrote another letter, thanking her for her short stay !

- The Winter Queen can be a bit strict...keeps snow and frost as long as she can ... but, March gives hope for warmer weather (and your birthday) - A wonderful poem, I enjoy reading Vie Rose :) - hugs

Yes the winter Queen sometime doesn't want to relinquish her hold on us, still we welcome spring with open arms when it finally arrives Anne, :)

Dear Rose, I think you captured the delicate dance between longing and release so beautifully. I love the way you personify Winter as a visitor and a challenge. It’s as though you’ve turned a season of discomfort into a delicate relationship, full of reflection, waiting, and eventual peace. Simply lovely. Winter Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

This is a beautifully composed poem, dear Rose. I loved your letter to Madam Winter, requesting her to go away. This letter has a semi witty and humorous tone. But it sounds so earnest and intimate. Enjoyed it from start to finish.

I guess, we are the nature around us as well as the nature inside of us...we are. No matter where we are...all seasons and time. Lovely write! Made me think beneath the surface.
