Heat
Heat.
The Cyprus sun beats down relentless,
We stagger under the pressure of it,
The sweltering miasma outside is overwhelming.
Flies drone around us all day, how do they do it?
Sleep becomes an elusive traitor,
Never there when we want it.
Bodies constantly wet, clothes always warm.
Even the cold water in the shower is now hot,
Heated by the blistering sun.
Fires abound in the forests around us,
Some ignited by the natural heat, some by fools
The Pine forests are tinder dry and easy prey.
Firefighters risk life and limb, for some the risk is to great
Like the forest, they succumb to the burning frenzy
Flames that seem unquenchable in their quest to destroy.
Nations come together against this common foe
Why can they not come together to right the wrong.
The wrong that has beset our land since 1974
One fire will succumb to water, the other , hopefully to words.
