He Has To Fight His Cousins
He has to fight his cousins his parents say
They are mean, preteens.
He is six, and sensitive
This is not fair I point out
Their arms are crossed. They are determined
He will be a boy's boy no matter what
Sissies do not belong in their family.
They are living in the dark ages of the Hatfields and McCoys
He gets beat, he learns, they agree.
Both had to fight, both think it is the only way
Their heads are down deep in the sand.
What if he doesn't get back up? We point out
We have no real say here. They are kin.I am school people.
He will learn, they insist. He has to fight his cousins.
No light in their eyes; only darkness and determination.
I guess not getting up would be a testamony to bravery?
Will they put this on his gravestone?
No doubt.
