This poem is a celebration of the ancient Chinese tradition of the auspicious Mid-Autumn Festival. All Chinese families and communities across the world enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This is the time for the harvest in the old agrarian society where the bounty of the earth's blessings make for joy and celebration.

Also, the full moon with its beauty presides in brilliant aura. In the old custom, lovers celebrate togetherness.

During this time, Chinese enjoy eating moon cakes and other sweet delicacies (a symbol for happiness and good fortune), and sip good tea.

Children play with brightly coloured paper and cellophane lanterns, in a cheery and noisy procession of lantern marches and frolic with joy.

The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival takes a great prominence especially in mainland China and even Taiwan. It is on par with the Chinese New Year which is the Spring celebration of the Lunar New Year in the Chinese almanac and calendar.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2018 to one and all.

~~~~~~~~~ Here by the lake the aura bright, Moon beams speak well as stillness sighs; Time to now take a break most light, Gather most meek with happy highs. Mid-autumn moon with aura bright, Hearts feel deep cheer with harvest grand; Night's poignant boon in the warm light, We gather near with kin and friends. Sip fragrant tea with moon cake treats, Fond smiles go round as laughter grounds; For you and me fond season greets, Good cheer knows bounds with frolic found. Lanterns and kids with folks happy, So much of joy in moonlight tryst; Lovers now bid romantic spree, Kinship and ploys spread certain bliss. Old ancient touch soars the lake moon, Verse rhymes adrift on wholesome wit; Feel more and much of harvest boon, Watch mystic gift of ample fit. Joy wears fine smiles as cheer runs wild, This autumn fest knows a sure flow; Prosper deep style both man and child, Let sacred quest spark festive glow. Here and now see how joy delights, Sweet spreads and cheer bring happy poise; Love and plenty to flavour sights, A custom clear in lavish voice. Let hearts and minds embrace each good, Peace and hope merge a festive charm; Watch bounty bind our precious mood, Let tact move surge in loving arms. Placid the calm of moonlight hours, Watch stillness rest the weary soul; A touching balm both yours and ours, Mid-autumn quest restores deep whole. Leon Enriquez 23 September 2018 Singapore
