Once elected into office He revealed he was no novice Going back on every promise With disdain and dose of malice To the land became a menace Did his best to hide the vices By the use of herbs and spices Used the art of false disguises But the stink of deep corruption Failed to mask excess consumption Till at last, greedy and bloated In disgrace, by people loathed Karma came with poisoned chalice Handing out poetic justice. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For Carolyn Devonshire’s Contest: “Justice”. Thank you, Andrea. Many people do not appear to bother much about corruption, 'til it suddenly sprouts in their backyard! Regards // paul

That "poisoned chalice" of corruption certainly is something we see all too often, along with betrayal of public trust. Congratulations on a first-place win for your excellent poem, Paul, and thank you for supporting the contest. Love, Carolyn

Thank you, Vijay. I won't tar all politicians with the same brush, but I know of several who abuse/d of the people's trust! Best regards // paul

A wonderful and genuine " poetic justice" Paul! A brilliant rendition of the mean manipulation of greedy of power.. deceiving others to attain their very whims and concerns.. powerful and expressive diction! An interesting work worthy of rereads and win.. a FAV. My deepest regards. Stay blessed always.

Hi Paul, This is a good entry contest theme. Your write made think of " Politicians" . They often make empty promises to get elected. Well done. I wish you best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Yes, Alexis, the subject matter does refer to politicians. Empty promises are bad, but robbing from the country's coffers is even worse! Some believe that power gives them the power to do so! Regards // paul
