Graveyard
I'd heard that they were unpleasant
A place no one wants to go
Unattractive and shadowy
But for me that isn't so
I used to skip through the gravestones
With interest not fear
Looking at the words
Telling of who resides right here
Saddened by short times on earth
Or couples kept apart
Some for 50 years or more
But still kept in the others heart
The epitaph so humble
Of those that have lived and died
Wive, mothers, fathers brothers
Those they lived alongside
Then there's the resting place of those
Who couldn't afford the cost
Laid to rest with many others
Eventually those graves are lost
So they are not just sad places
They are evidence of the past
These people loved and remembered
Until there's no one left to ask
