“Be like the sun for grace and mercy. Be like the night to cover others' faults. Be like running water for generosity. Be like death for rage and anger. Be like the Earth for modesty. Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” Rumi
In times of persecution, poems give me butterflies, but meaningless scribes leave behind silent lullabies. Life has abandoned me to burn in embers of rage, now my words are leaving me facing a blank page. In your soul I placed the catharsis of my poetry, now I'm exhaling the exhaustion from empathy. Fate keeps triggering a release of perpetual pains, I guess we don't appreciate the sun until it rains. Should I be judged against a typical male stereotype, suffering from the sins of a macho archetype? I'm dancing away from fears of toxic masculinity, you may disagree, but I respect all forms of femininity. Fields of fairness bloom in my flowery poetic garden, but some use your words as weapons when their heart hardens. Many petals die in the pursuit of perfection, yet we still sow seeds to grow forever flowers of affection. I refuse to wash my hands in rivers of regret, we can't wear the same crown with a suspicious mindset. I can't let destiny drown in those tides of jealousy, there's no prettiness to pettiness and hypocrisy. Conversing with tantalizing tears of torment, composes musical misery with a chorus of repent. Why sabotage the things you love the most, settling for silence? Search for a stairway to attain peace and end demonic violence. Promises of patience are a symphony we'll make, the mere reflection of me shouldn't cause heartache. You believe this heart is made of steel and cement, like artificial apologies and roses without a scent. In reality we can reflect like rays of a graceful sunrise, so when you don't doubt my worth, together we can arise.

graceful as the soul's breath, whispering and singing, glowing like eternity, gentling even the raging beast... such a wonderful and "graceful" vision. Love this. God bless you and congrats on your win. Love, Gina

Your words danced gracefully across the page, and poetry was born. Makes no difference the form, it can heal the heart torn. As to all forms of femininity, we all have the potential both masculine and feminine; why limit ourselves. Stereo types are so often built from egos and illusions. Awesome, Rumi quote, Silent One. One of my favorite writers and poets. Thanks for sharing your poetry with us, my friend. It is a blessing to my soul. Bill

Your vividly descriptive poem, especially the figures of speech, conveys a strong point about how we wish to be viewed and how we may BE viewed. Janice

Such a powerful and intricately written poem. You evoked so many emotions with your creation, some of which I identify with. The poem is 'heavy' with how troubled you can feel at times. I can understand for sure. Like you, I 'refuse to wash my hands in rivers of regret. Your Rumi quote was perfect to set the tone. Rumi, along with Robert Frost, is one of my favorites. Rumi is deep and spiritual. Sometimes I just need his reassuring words that I'm okay. Wishing you the best, Sara

"In reality we can reflect like rays of a graceful sunrise, so when you don't doubt my worth, together we can arise." -- One must respect others if to truly respect one's self -- each of us is a physical extremity connected to God's greater spiritual body of love. Excellent writing my friend!

Rumi is a poet I adore. I see you often beginning your poem with a quote by Rumi. Are you not a Rumi with your sagacity and depth of vision."I guess we don't appreciate the sun until it rains." I love this naked statement of truth. You are a poet of great rank and probably a few may look upon you with jealousy. But ignore it as long as "fields of fairness bloom in your flowery poetic garden"and grace abounds and stairways open to peace. Beautiful dear friend.

Poems give u butterflies? I bet only rumis. Anyway this sounds like a poem flowing with angst and how one can feel when bouquets of artificial apologies and roses etc. when tides of jealousy come, maybe theres no need to rise together, but to sail away to a shore thats more serene when theres too many sharks, those satanic seas can be too much , and can be exhausting for an empath! Well there are so many types of gaslighters, and so many frget to appreciate the sun, and i choose to dance in rain

I can see you’re a real Rumi fan! Love the first line: In times of persecution, poems give me butterflies. Also: now I'm exhaling the exhaustion from empathy…I'm dancing away from fears of toxic masculinity, you may disagree, but I respect all forms of femininity… but some use your words as weapons when their heart hardens and more! Great work as always!

Sigh. I need to adopt this as my own. In any case, so many lines that resonate. "Searching for a stairway to attain peace..." "I guess we don't appreciate the sun til it rains..." And the last two lines. All of us have worth. More good than bad. Let us reflect the rays of kindness, gracefulness, love. Excellent

There are so many lessons to be learned in this insightful poem. Life is so short, it's a Gift, yet we get so caught up in pettiness, anger, jealousy, and senseless games. I quite agree with your line ..search for a stairway to attain peace and end demonic violence. If only every one could just concentrate on doing that one thing, what a different world this would be.

Yes, you are right. Ignore them. We can only be true ourselves. This is a poetry site for posting poems and supporting others and that is what I will do.

Yes you are right, I will leave those with redneck minds to keep their bigotry and hate. I have no time for such things. Some people would rather create hate and bully others and harass them, rather than create peace. Then they hide like charmless cowards pretending to be innocent...

I like that one by Rumi. A very insightful and intelligent man. Everyday I ask God to help me be a better person, but, alas, I change slower than a snail slugs along. Your work reads like a good contender for the contest to me. Way to go. Thanks for sharing it with us and for dropping by my page. Sara

There are plenty of gentle power punchs in here, if there is such a thing. I love the juxtapositions of the statements and how they bring into focus the error of ways when blinded by emotion. Excellent.
