Good Night
GOOD NIGHT
Spread out in the bramble,
downtown parade a dusky memory.
Arrived at the head of the line.
no flashlight, candle
in his hand, Dylan’s voice
on his lap, his girl
listens, smiles at the camera.
he reads, “Do not
go gentle into that good night.”
her light dress, a tie
a vest resemble the times, serious —
no one went out, blue jeans
not for dates, fireworks
will wait
until the last five words,
“the dying of the light.”
meanwhile families
arrive, after supper —
morsels to the ear.
nuptials in a year.
