Charlie Brown would utter, “Good grief.”
It’s good only in the sense of camaraderie,
a shared bond of suffering and hope,
if one stands with a strong faith; but the utter
agony of love “two became one,”
the plea in a father’s eyes wanting more time,
desperate for an answer that is not logical to his mind.
So he wakes up “once again,” breathes in and out,
hugs my mother’s urn, feeling he’s failed
at the promise to keep her safe.
Thankful for family all about. 61 years of marriage -
clinging to circular patterns. Some released as ashes.
