~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer settles into my bones
as I breathe the dust of mown lawns
and the heady scent of roses, peacefully
listening to my heart’s hasty beat,
as I walk through the summertime
wrestling with my yearnings, the dawn
lowering her blessings across my spirit
singing melancholic notes
and echoing lights, reflecting all the joys
the stories of summer loves,
the poems and the promises,
the gentling of a grace far more gentle
than any moment I’ve ever kept
in my mementos – sentimental reasons
fading into the hesitant laughter of a wish
as the oaks seek out the maple
whispering winds lingering
beneath the shadows of pine and laurel
the forest’s narcissistic colors, caressing my life
with hopes – because its summertime and I know
life is more than the sweet breath of healing,
the moments keep fading into yesterday
and I remember…
He is with me, in the silence – in the wind
in the music played by ferns as they murmur
to the violet and sing praises from their roots
as I lift my voice into the summer heat
and tell the Lord His love is sweet
His love is like the hasty glow,
glistening, glorious, goodness
flowing over my spirit as the night sings
in dewy mysteries, blessing away the past
and quivering through my life
a moment when I realize how faithful He’s been,
more faithful than the summer’s kiss
against my cheek, the wind’s dreamy laughter
giggling like a life whose been colored by songs,
more like wisdom than reflection,
a gift of praise falls from my soul
and I breathe faith through the stories, a poem
fades into the psalms, who pour from the summer
reassuring and reminding me to hear Him
in the rich pearls of Sunday preachings,
quiet secrets revealing what it means
to love more than anything, more than the wind
more than the seas, more than the forests –
with their laughing and teasing,
reflecting what it means to see into the moment
when sunlight fades and the joys insist on erasing
the sweaty days and hastening into the night
where the moon burns bright
and the fireflies reassure my thoughts,
remembering when I caught them in a jar
never holding their destiny against me – forgiving
like the One who brought healing, convincing me
that love this alive, it will ever survive
and life, oh precious life…
as summer reveals, with her precious peace
life is discovered beneath the cover of a sky
who stirs the spirit, a sigh
because He is alive – He is life…
He is life…
and I will not cry
for summer’s goodbye
because I know the One who abides
throughout all time…
I know He is mine…
forever mine, throughout all time
Jesus decides…
how summer revives
the spirit, refreshed
by the gentle caress,
summer’s light, her story
rejoice, - oh, rejoice…
He gives us all a choice
choose love – in all its glory
He is the One who wrote the story
Love – summertime’s voice… remembering
He is the light of each moment
He is the grace that keeps pouring out
victorious, because there is only One
who is brighter than the sun…
He is the Son, and His love is wonderous
A miracle that survives all the summer’s nights
A mystery so alive that it is the breath of life
A music to play each note – like the wings of hope
He is the Son who arose – so this love can flow
Oh, keep swimming in the gentle flow
Love from the One who is reverberating
In my soul, so I surely know
He is the answer for each need, each prayer
He brings me assurance that God really does care!
