The truth cuts with an unforgiving blade,
revealing the lies you thought time forgot.
For false lovers have been measured and weighed,
and memorized excuses served them naught.
Betrayal sends shock waves throughout your heart,
leaving you numb and suddenly afraid.
For as your fantasy's falling apart,
no shining knight comes rushing to your aid.
You're addicted to flattery's sweet lies
and never want the pretending to end.
Playing along to avoid sad goodbyes,
you ignore the advice of your best friend.
But when jilted ghosts of happiness haunt,
you're not so sure what you really want.
