For Unseeking Seekers Fulcrum of a Rose Contest.
Do you have any tattoos? I drift into a dream, already overwhelmed by the world... There's barely a mark on me: a few scars, some freckles - no distinguishing features. Nothing has convinced me to label my skin, but I'm fascinated by how others are adorned - the point where a rose needed a permanence that lasted a lifetime, where a name could be written into flesh for what we understand as forever. I couldn't - couldn't carry a choice on my skin. To try and capture the moment things were wonderful - allow them to be hopefully etched - for I already fear the day after. I picture how I sink to my knees, ever in fear of watching myself fall and having that one wish, there and then, that I'd known better. So here I am, playing it safe, soaking into the moments everything is fragrant and beautiful, yet poised for regret. I know, deep down, that roses aren't meant to last.

I keep my tattoos confined to paper...I call them poems..I can ditch them easily if I grow tired of them. Just love the drift of this poem, holds together in the face of flux. Nice one DD.

It's my attempt to view the phrase Fulcrum of a Rose through a Buddhist lens but all entirely on a tilt :) I love the fact if I can up my readership and engagement I can know the tattoo status of all poetry soup frequenters haha. I honestly can't imagine being happy with any tattoo for longer than an evening. I have wore a few fake ones for fancy dress before and actually loved them though- particularly wings on my back :) thank you for the kind words (and the double visit!) appreciated x

I’m tattoo free myself Dilly, for all the aforementioned reasons, scars are a different story altogether lol! this piece is quite powerful with true poetic essence, and is extremely well crafted, some beautiful metaphors throughout, your fulcrum of a rose is perfectly poised for contest, cheers David

I've come at the contest from left of centre I'm sure, but I happily went along for the ride. The subconscious is an interesting place at times - I got a little carried away googling pictures of roses, then rose tattoos. Maybe I'll interrogate a few of my tattooed friends and see if they have all the answers because they were prepared to turn instinct (or whim) into permanence. Resting in the balance, as always :) thanks for stopping by :)
