from the cradle to the shame

sadness leaves the source hits page, makes tracks, with force leaves behind a stillness that doesn't show unnoticed ache, where tears don't flow that looks like carrying on but pitter patter still beats within knocks on mind, loudest of quiet din sealed up or gulped down until can contain no more or start to feel again tears salt tongue, sting skin let out screams, unknown where they've been frightening and terrifying, overrun fears that madness may have begun though settle, get soothed not know why, as deny, deny, deny, deny deny the self the right to cry

I cannot get Munch’s ‘scream’ out of my head reading this one Dilly, it captures something inexplicably raw inside me, the tears that I deny life to perhaps, what a beautiful delicate human balancing act of emotional release and suppression all at once, incredibly difficult to put these contrasting insane feelings into a poem, yet you nailed it here, top drawer poetry, cheers David

Thanks David, I've written at least 3 on The Scream, although before I started to appreciate art via poetry I never liked that painting at all and just thought it was for shock value. Obviously I've got well into Edvard since and do not think like that now. This was prompted by your tears one and just reflected on sadness that gets embedded in childhood that resurfaces and I feel guilty that I've not let things go. I feel so unnecessary with my hang ups that it's a source of shame. "Balancing act of emotional release and suppression" feels like a prescription to take regularly - thank you for your thoughtful comment, appreciated
