From My Perspective
The dogwood tree is blooming on my lawn
Robins are returning to build their nest,
Near the woodland, I saw a spring fawn
Squirrels are courting, as I had guessed.
Pollinators are budding in the meadow
Honeybees are looking for flowering plants,
Evening sun is casting a low pink shadow
I’ve stored my jeans, I’m into short pants.
I’m seriously thinking of doing my taxes
Getting all of my financial affairs in order,
After the sun goes down, my body relaxes
So, I’ll sit on the porch, play my recorder.
I’ll be looking for someone to cut my grass
I’m too old to push the old lawn mower,
As well, I’ll surely moan the price of gas
Another year, see, I’m moving much slower.
But, overall, I’m happy as a meadowlark
I’d like to say “All’s right with the world!”
But I’m afraid ol’ Noah is building the ark,
And I have my old American flag unfurled.
