From I To We
from “i” to “we”
the independent, unique, ambitious
individual
who lives for the day &
spends their time squeezing the nectar
from life
defines themselves on their own &
is known to their friends, their workplace &
their family as
a person on the verge of anything
where the possibilities are endless for
growth &
no one can stand in the way of
their dreams.
now somewhere along the way they meet
another & are completely taken aback by them---
thrown for a loop by this other unique individual,
whose mere existence seems to be a one in a million
& they too are
ready for anything
with the ability to forge new ground
without looking back
without taking no for an answer &
suddenly one is entranced by the other.
and for a brief moment,
the two are still themselves, each unique,
but now spending time experiencing the other---
they cater to their specialties, but the create a new space,
one where they both reside &
sooner than later,
it is that space which sucks in the energy from the other
once unique spaces,
draining them dry &
the “i” begins to disappear,
along with the strength of the individual
along with the ambition to be more
along with the destiny of one,
for now there are no longer two distinct people anymore.
“we” becomes used to describe either of the two alone or
when they are together,
and suddenly there is no escaping this “we”
that crept in, almost unannounced,
for all the time that the two once-unique individuals spent
experiencing the other
was a smokescreen for the quick elimination of everything that
made them
themselves.
