The first two stanzas are metaphorical, about Christian homes being assaulted by outside evil influences.  The last two stanzas are more about survivalism.

The modern world that surrounds us is extremely fragile.  A century of civilized progress can be suspended in a very short time by a serious natural disaster, plagues, atomic bombs or electro-magnetic pulse.  Even a bad trucking strike would empty all the shelves at the local grocery stores in a couple of days.  Most people use debit cards, but if the power grid goes down nobody is buying anything soon.  Having a few weeks worth of extra canned food and water stored away is a smart idea.

Prepare your home like a fortress For the battle’s already come. The Fallen One’s hosts are endless, And our world may be soon undone. We already are surrounded. Prepare your home like a fortress. Don’t stand there looking astounded; The Adversary’s merciless! Watch what you say; be most cautious. Hide rations behind walls and floors. Prepare your home like a fortress. ‘Friends’ may be crashing down your doors. Disasters, plagues, insurrections, Or whatever may cause distress. If you can’t escape, load your guns! Prepare your home like a fortress.

Mark... yes with population explosion, the competition is for the survival of the fittest... but however strong homes are fortified with daily needs of survival... ultimately death does us part. what is the limit to fortification...??? to live with vulnerability is to live in freedom and to be fortified is like living in the tomb. where you cannot be disturbed by even the sunlight, fresh air, chirping of the birds... though what have written is a fact...

Best I can do is use what hidden garden space I have for vegetables and fruit-bearing bushes and trees, and buy every week or so a little extra food with a long shelf-life, hoping I never have to fight to defend it. Thanks for commenting.
