Forgotten Memory

On September 16th 52 years ago yesterday A young man was wounded in battle This memory was lost by one day A sniper bullet entered his head on this very day This memory almost forgotten by only one day Laying in an open field blood spewing from his head Trying to call for a medic but nothing was said Speechless and almost dead my brother lay Days and years have passed yet, still vivid to me A love never forgotten but memories have become lost Kind and loving he once was changed by war Innocence turned into unthinkable memories I celebrate this day because he lived Not because he was my hero

Bittersweet write, Bobby. It was a blessing he lived, so many did not. A selfless sacrifice for so many which this country will forever be in their debt. Very emotive write!
