Forgiveness

(Based on a real incident.....) In a whiff of salubrious morning air The newly blossomed flowers looked all too fair They had an unseen radiant gleam And resembled the ones I had in my dream In my garden they happened to bloom After a rainy night of ever deepening gloom In daylight, dazzling their beauty and glory They seemed to narrate an enticing story Those blossoms had a mysterious grace That I thought of placing them in my vase While I stood admiring them in rising ecstasy I saw my neighbor looking at them in growing jealousy With dusk fall, when I looked out into my garden Those beauties were no more there to gladden Someone had stealthily plucked them and was gone And my poor heart in despair began to moan To my dejection, I saw the mother plant cruelly pulled out And felt a piece being sliced out from my heart I guessed who had stolen it with their fresh sprouts To confirm, I sent an unsuspecting visitor to her house There it stood newly potted and kept hidden in a corner My resentment grew stronger as I often suspected her To be rude, never returning my gesture of warmth Though my neighbor, I decided to keep her at arm’s length And never to forgive, for I loved that plant so dear Buying it at a heavy price, had long waited, it to flower Then I heard a faint whisper from deep inside They were words mild, but seemed to chide “Why do you look all too down cast Over a trifle, you have irrevocably lost, What’s gone is gone and shall never come to stay And the pain it causes has to wither away. Forgive and forget, she will turn your friend In due course everything shall come to mend” The dictates of my conscience, I resolved not to thwart And felt a heavy load being lifted off my heart! Congratulations on your win. What a "Powerful" write. It hurts even more when it is family/friend/neighbor. Been there a few times. I say, let God handle it. Have a great/blessed day.......................

Valsa, Your poem's ideas are moving and of high quality. This poem depicts someone as the embodiment of evil. When this happens, we question global justice. Because you can't fight for everyone, you have greater sympathy. you're so kind dear friend.

Every time your neighbour looks at the flower, or someone makes a comment about it, she will be reminded of her theft, and that uprooted flower will never bloom for her as it did for you! Aloha!

Person you describe in this poem is the worst of humanity. Sadly it happens and roils our sense of equity. You are more forgiving than me--but life is short to fight someone else's fight. Endearing sentiments you convey, Valsa.

yes this speaks deeply to me, one of life's greatest lessons...to turn the cheek...in this abyss, it becomes personal, as all great poets achieve, and line by line the answer reaches ever greater clarity. so what greater compliment can i bestow upon this poem, took my hand and helped me understand the wiser path life can hold....great job

That is life beginning with Cain. I dare not leave my gas cylinder outside as it has been to have been stolen. Great poem and great lesson. Hugs
