My inspiration for the poem came from a poem Chris and I wrote together earlier this week (it hasn't been posted before):

I light a candle
and in its flutter
open folded envelopes
pieces of my past
shadows in the dancing flame
take me back
A mirror dark
lights up as I dance
a child with ringlets
bouncing
When I hear songs,
recorded memories
spinning fables
once forgotten
From my hands
they fly, new stories
sing in my mind
still undiscovered
and I rejoice
in the freedom found
in the flickering fire
enticing my dreams

I light a candle and in its flutter
open envelopes,
each one holds a piece of your past

I make old stories fly.

A child's ringlets
bounce in a mirror
new shoes skip
ten to two
eleven
three

Lip-gloss, eye-liner, braided hair
strapless dress, stilettos
brisk kisses in low-lit alleys.

Recorded memories
for your eager ears
And I see your freedom dance
in a last flicker.

A very nice poem. The whole poem in four sentences attracts my attention. Nice use of literary devices. Old stories flying is indeed a good imagery. I would like to apprentice the use of personification in more than 4 places. Really a great poem.

Love them both ... whimsical and sublime. Taken on an exquisite journey back through time.

Good Evening Darren. Good Morning Chris. The first entry you showcase is most beautiful and poetic. How could it not be. The second is a lovely continuation. May the candle(s) always light and flutter to make sure dreams and the freedom dance forever remain. By the way I love Wes Side Story and everything about it. May this day find you both well. Blessings. Well done completely and entirely.

Ahhh, those ringlet days, followed later by lip gloss , stilettos and brisk kisses in dark alleys. What a wonderful collaboration you two Masters of Verse have woven. So good Darren and Chris, I love it...Maria
