Most times we hide... Most times when people ask we say: "I'm fine" - and look away - "Really, I am fine" and all the while behind the mask of smiles behind the eyes that fake deep in the heart we collapse and cry, where no one sees. Everyone we meet is fighting some kind of battle ... oh, if we only kept that in mind when we related to others. We are uniquely self-centered species, good and bad, we are miraculous. Gorgeous write, Darren ... your work always turns my gears, and that is the best compliment I can give. If the written word makes you THINK or imagine or change, even slightly, then it has done the grandest purpose it can! If people knew the tears we shed behind the smiles ... ADORE this. Perhaps it is a mask or perhaps it is a protective hood to keep another from worrying too much. :) Nicely stated my friend.

It is both Chris. Plus it is self protection, a form of keeping people at a distance out of fear of being hurt.

"we give but never take." So true Darren. Sharing is hard, especially when we have to open up and admit everything is not OK. Its easier to just pretend. Sharing is more fulfilling though, in my experience. Just choose wisely. Well written Darren! Regards, Dean

Yes, it is hard. It is also a form of protection, and also one to avoid people to come too close. All of that is possible
