For Too Long I Have Remembered You
There once was a time for us,
there once was a time.
A lone silhouette stays in the heart,
where love was, forever gone.
A tear lost in a falling stream of emptiness,
stained the face of loneliness, when love died.
For too long I have remembered you,
a memory that comes each day,
pouring over me, a waterfall,
washing away all reflections of what was,
cluttering thoughts of distant days,
that may or not have been real.
Like flocks of birds,
filtering through the sky of my mind,
diving in unison only to disperse,
among the fallen leaves that lay scattered,
where a heart once was.
Torn in half it lingers,
as dead petals do on the stem of a rose,
falling into an empty garden,
once filled with blooms,
chilled now by the wind of love's demise.
A heart alone with vanishing footsteps,
trailing away to a dull grey horizon.
Where the sun never rises,
and the round sky rolls away,
leaving nothing... an empty space,
where beauty was,
before a heart was torn in half,
and found to wilt away on the conquered ground,
like a vanquished foe left bleeding on the steps,
that lead up to the throne of love,
where a heart once sat.
