For the Sake of Argument

Have you ever known someone who couldn't admit even to themelves that they could make even the smallest mistake? They will point their finger at anyone and anything to take the light of responsibility off themselves. They get mad and their voice gets louder and louder and they talk over you to drown out any reason you are trying to project into the conversation. They'll even tell you to shut up so they can be heard. They just will not accept blame of any kind. Then they think because people get quiet they have won and they have been vindicated when actually they lose friends and make enemies. When people see them coming they go the other way to avoid them.
A foolish man will waste his words,
When the argument is lost,
But some continue to battle,
No matter what the cost.
Some will argue on and on,
And pay no mind to reason.
They seem to think to acquiesce,
Tantamount to treason;
A kind of self betrayal,
To admit even to self,
That any fault could be their own,
And vindicate oneself,
With a steady flow of words,
In one's own defense,
Accusing all and sundry,
Of some kind of pretense.
At least in their own mind,
The matter has been settled,
Because they buried the whole thing,
Under tons of drivel.
