For the Love of Words

I like a pen inside my eager hand. I scribble words that come; I cross some out. But poetry cannot be always planned, for often I am running all about! When I am in a store or on a drive, my muse pops in with magic to reveal. I grab my pad and hope that I arrive safe and well from writing at the wheel! For I cannot revive collective thought which comes together smoothly at one time if with my pen and paper I am not! Without my tools of trade, there goes the rhyme! So ink is an extension of my mind, because computers I can't always find!

This was a fun and relate-able read. I laughed out loud on the writing at the wheel line... it reminded me of my dad when he used to read the newspaper while driving! Pen and ink is more classy but computers are really handy. I always got one in my pocket ready to take notes when my muse gets going.

Andrea, I am new to Poetry Soup and want to thank you so much for viewing and commenting on one of my . . .I can't bring myself to call them poems because I have no idea what I'm doing here . . .but in any case, Thank you. After reading some of your work, I am encouraged to continue and maybe eventually write something properly. I tried to write on your wall, but it wouldn't let me leave a message there. Gail

This made me smile Andrea, I tend to write on my phone using my email when thoughts pop into my head. Can actually visualize all the writing you sometimes do in between :)

I too have a bad habit of writing at the wheel. I won't answer a phone while driving but sometimes the words have to come and you can't lose them.

I like to write in ink first too. Sometimes you want to review what you have scratched out on paper or you want a bunch of automatic words put down that need no organization. A computer keyboard is not very rhythmic for me. Bev rescued a cat this morning that had somehow got onto the roof - our Mamma Mia. She had babies and was a wonderful mamma. Love, daver

I am guilty of doing exactly the same thing Andrea. When inspiration hits ypu never know where it will be. I always have to have a pen and paper near me. I was going to write something like this, but you've written it better! A great entry for the contest!

so true Andrea, you said it well, and so beautifully, your such a inspiring poet, isn't it strange how words just form at the strangest times, and by the time I get home I don't remember what I was trying to remember, LOL

It seems like the best lines always come to me at the worst possible time. So now I try to keep a pen and paper near me at all times... I really enjoyed this poem, Andrea. I love how it was expressed with such simplicity. Good luck in the contest!.... Thank you for your lovely comments, by the way!

Can't believe you write while driving, I must have a really dull mind. Don't think about anything but driving. I guess that is why you're the poet and I am your concerned sister. Concerned for your safety. Did this sonnet cause you to do that? Drive and write at the same time? Be careful.

oh , jenny. I rarely do that!! Just a few times I would scribble thoughts at the wheel but I always had my eyes on the road! Have you never done it at all? LIke maybe you needed a phone number so you wrote it while driving? I can write without looking at the paper and later I am able to figure out what I was trying to write!!

An ink of spirit, in your vibrant eyes, pulsing fingertips, magic on soft murmuring lips, automatic passion Andrea...I meditate and write while multitasking at work. Thete is something so exhilarating about discovrring powerful, beautiful poetry impromtu, written with alacrity and without ado...noble homage to the process of craft...J.A.B.

Alas, many a wondrous poem has wandered through the mind of the empty hand only to be enjoyed by the muse and the poet she torments in these unpenciled moments.

I had heard it was not safe to drive in Utah. Now I know why. That is an incredible commitment you have to your poetry. Also very revealing, I suppose Einstein would have been like you. This is an adorable write and very endearing.
