For God So Loved the World

'For God so loved the world He sent His Son'
To free us from the grip of sin's domain,
That full redemption for all time be won
And man may dwell at peace with God again.

From heaven's glory to a tainted earth
He came to seek and save all who were lost,
To manifest a life of higher worth
And pay the greatest sacrificial cost.

Oh that my heart might daily sing the praise,
Of He who cared enough to die for me
And may I strive to ever live my days
For Christ, who bore my sins on Calvary.

'For God so loved the world' so how can I
Live for my selfish goals and Christ deny?

Beautiful sonnet of faith - almost like an ode to Jesus! This gives such honor to Jesus. I especially like your last two lines. Congratulations Wendy on your first place win! Grace and peace to you!

Dear Wendy, this is a glorious presentation of the gospel in a sonnet. You've always been one of my top sonnet composers, and I am chiding myself for not seeing this until now, but am so glad I did today. This is going straight into my faves for future revisits. The famous scripture verse is lovingly expounded; with Christ's incarnation, sacrificial death, atonement for our sins, purchase of our eternal life, and our proper response of praise and commitment. Excellent! Blessings ~ John
