Following the Moonlight
she jogged quickly at first
with only the sound of her
jagged breath breaking the
dead silence of the night
after only minutes of running
her pace regressed towards limping
and she grew weary from the loss of blood
her faltered vision allowed her to see the
wounds she had attained that night
the sight of her bruised body
brought tears to the rims of her
blackened eyes
she let the light of the moon guide her
to a place where she could rest and continue to cry tenderly
for the remainder of the night
for a minute she surrendered
herself to the aura of the night
to the silence
to the serenity
it wasn’t long before the silence
was broken
now it was simply a distant memory
they were close before she had a chance to retreat
they moved in quickly and quietly
they had picked up her scent
and once again she was in the midst of peril
where was she to run
no, she would not run
from them
not again
not because she didn’t want to run
primarily because she could not
she stared into the face of death would she
be able to slip through the cracks
and escape with her life once again
no
she knew she would not
she must sit still and await her fate
as she followed the moonlight with her eyes
she could feel them closing in on her
she knew danger was approaching
This is the end , she thought to herself
Yes
she knew it was as she felt them gnawing on her already
wounded body
and her screams and cries could not discourage them
it is in the moonlight where they remember her
for that is where her corpse is destined to lay for eternity
