Following Prompts - clockwork
Write a “how-to” poem about something you don’t know how to do - building a watch
In the beginning there are pieces
Already there, scattered on a table
My beginning is to sort them
Time is spent creating groups
There's logic from outside to inside
On the outside, in the still of the second
You'd never know what doesn't work
Teeth need to match teeth
Turns need space and wisdom
Compress that wisdom into the space
Ensure the moving parts translate externally
Once it's all turning test against a measure
Timers for hours or eggs
Cogs and wheels, rods and pivots
I don't know what makes it go
Nor do I have instructions
I perhaps shouldn't have faith
But I do when nothing else makes sense
