Flashes of Real
Lies cannot deceive your soul
as dying dreams drown in tears.
And it's like you're in a hole
that deepens over the years.
Squandering away your youth,
you somehow lose track of time.
And realize that the truth
hastens anxiety's climb.
Lured by flattery's sweet sway,
you cling to dreams that survive.
And you hide your hurt away,
trying to keep love alive.
Denial won't let you see
past the lies the way you should.
And fuels the fantasy
that he is misunderstood.
Seeking solace in the dark,
hope hides flashes of real.
And although tears leave their mark,
smiles conceal the pain you feel.
