First Love

Love, I take it my hands Like a baby Its hungry mouth yawning Its dimpled cheeks smiling Its skin unblemished By strands of memory And me aching The aching me to be again The freshness of its presence. Love, I look into its eyes Searching for meaning To the beginning And the ending Of what we felt the first time Our eyes met first And lingered languishing in thirst. And I ask now beyond the eyes silence The question suckling at my heart. For all the times since we separated For the many who came after you were gone For the anxiety caused by feelings elevated What is the difference with each new dawn For love, I believe Only one of you exist And since the first (why did you leave?) I suck the pacifiers for my pain Searching barren hope for bliss And wait for you to come again.

This is inspired poetry, Shango. Rest assured love will come again. We may get only so many chances to find the special bond you describe, but the love we feel for our family and friends helps us through the lonely times when we wish that someone special was in our lives to stay. You do have love, it comes from me and all of the folks at Poetry Soup who take joy in reading your poetry! Much love always, Carolyn
