Feathers of Doubt
Feathers of Doubt
Just as my eyes slowly close
I see them
vague, feathery thoughts
dancing
on my eyelids
shouting from my eyebrows,
“YA SHOULDA LISTENED TO ME!!”
Startled awake
they are gone
leaving only their
feathers of doubt.
As I drift off
they smile slyly
knowing
they are safe
until tomorrow
exposes their lies.
Just as my eyes slowly open
I see them
scurrying away
weary of the night
fearful of the day
rumpled feathers
cringing in the sunlight.
