Notes About The Poem

falling like leaves again -

Below an aching sky of herringbone ...

Enfolded deep within a gamboge glen,

An old man sat recalling what had been

Unto the summers of his life, now flown.

This precious spot had given blossom to,

In arms of autumn, he and his true love,

For passion, falling like the leaves above

Upon the forest floor in moods of blue ...

Let burn, the fire of each late rendezvous.

For many years he'd hushed her silent call,

And now returned to set his yearning free ...

Like tender hearts, he'd leave her memory

Lost deep within the beauty ... of the fall.

Back with congratulations Greg! In this time of beauty, there is a pensive quality to the season that provides a wonderful metaphor for lost love in memories. Love the layers of the poem. Blessings!

A beautiful poem and acrostic to boot. Gamboge, new word to add to my vocabulary at my late age. A hint of sadness but romantic still. Congrats.

That's very kind of you to say, Reason, and I'm so happy you liked this one ... I am from a family of artists and musicians, so gamboge has always been "around", (and I love the color!). Blessings and thanks, my friend! :-)

Such a beautiful Acrostic poem, Greg, perfected with the added gifts of sounding like a romantic love song that flows along so rhythmically in the stream of Iambic Pentameter. Congratulations on your fine 1st Place win! Sandra <3

This is so sweet of you, Sandra, and I am so pleased that you enjoyed my Acrostic ... it's a form that takes a bit of "extra" motivation for me, but it's always enriching and rewarding to do so. Thanks and blessings, Dear Friend! :-) <3

Our summers are so short and sweet Greg, I hate to waste time being indoors. Now the nights are closing in, you will see a lot more of me here I hope.
