Falling Back

I can't keep up. I'm just a kid, but I won't give up. You can't get rid of me. I'm fallin' behind, fallin' back. Myself I find behind the pack -. that's me. I can't keep up. I'm an old man, but I won't give up. Look in your rearview, man. That's me.

Thank you for supporting my Flash Poetry Challenge, David. Your poem was randomly chosen to feature in my 'Results' blog, which is now up and running. I can't help but feel you've summed up my life in three stanzas! ;-)

Very lyrical poem dear david, i love it and made me wonder what the opening line meant or what you had in mind when you wrote that, i love the ending too, made me sing somehow as i read these words. Hope you are feeling better. Sending you light always~

Thanks for your compliments and interest, Ink. I was listening to a doo-wop show on public radio when I wrote it, but about that first verse, I just had a picture of a kid, struggling to keep up with his mom or dad, as you often see. I also, sometimes think of how I tried to keep up with my older brothers as a kid. Something about trying so hard to keep up, when one is challenged. Working on my cornbread and ginger tea breakfast now.

I like the steady rhyme. I fall back every November. The days are too short to stay ahead.

Thanks Kim - glad to hear that you like it! One of my favorite stories is the one about the tortoise and the hare.
