Falling Away With You-
The precipice waits
for our ascension.
It has a cruel face;
rocky and hard,
sharp and daunting.
I cannot remember
why you decided to
start the climb.
There are plenty of obstacles
That will present themselves
Often.
I will reluctantly follow
Because I can’t imagine
watching you go alone.
I forgot to dress in
protective gear,
therefore,
I am vulnerable
to the elements
and the expectations
you must have of me.
~
I am frightened.
~
When I falter,
your hand will
reach out quickly
to support me,
save me,
I know that.
so
I am not afraid of you,
exactly.
However, I am terrified of
how you might change
during our long
journey to the top.
I do not know what
you plan to do
once we are there;
(wherever ‘there’ is)
But
it doesn’t matter.
I just want to be with you,
because even the possibility
Of falling away with you
Is better than being left behind.
