Falcon's Song of Songs
For a daring young hiker, Ellen Cole,
sudden downfall of rain blocked clear light
and a small cave became her warm, dry hole.
For months to come, no daylight fell,
her woodsman-husband labored and lined
that same cave with ivory for her grave;
his futile attempt to deal with guilt.
Her pet falcon survived that mayhem night.
Soaring the forest, he charms the creatures there;
music as his mask, he mourns his loss of sight.
