Facing the Enemy

I would stumble and fall, struggle to get to my feet. Determined to get through it all. I was not going to allow defeat. Strength is hard to maintain When being pulled apart. I used my mind to sustain. And tried to ignore my heart. I was on a battlefield, with only a shield, to protect me from the foe. I realized that I couldn't yield, I knew to hang on and not let go. It was difficult to wrap my head around, what I learned to be true. I couldn't dismiss what I had found, the enemy that I faced, was you.

I missed this one and it is very powerful...to discover who the enemy is, especially someone close to you! Also , you are right...strength is hard to maintain. It does however get renewed and you have it. Great poem Sandra :)

Thank you Heidi, I think we all get weary trying to constantly be strong. It would be nice to have a soft place to fall at times.

The poetic story kept me involved and then a twist at the end was the icing on the cake! Great poem, Sandra! I enjoyed this. :)

I am bewildered and befuddled, not by the poem but by how beautifully you put this; and how absolutely true it is in so many cases. What we see is oftentimes what we have fought very hard to not see.

Thank you Caren, and you are so right about it happening in many cases. I unfortunately, think I was good at it.
