Facing the Enemy
I would stumble and fall,
struggle to get to my feet.
Determined to get through it all.
I was not going to allow defeat.
Strength is hard to maintain
When being pulled apart.
I used my mind to sustain.
And tried to ignore my heart.
I was on a battlefield, with only a shield,
to protect me from the foe.
I realized that I couldn't yield,
I knew to hang on and not let go.
It was difficult to wrap my head around,
what I learned to be true.
I couldn't dismiss what I had found,
the enemy that I faced, was you.
