Facing the Darkness

The face in the mirror has changed No longer do I see a handsome youth Instead I see the ravages of age Hair falling out and turning grey Lines in my forehead Well, I'm holding up pretty well considering that have touched the face of death in my past and lived to tell of my ordeal I watch the tableau of trees outside my window Taste the light while I still can Drink deeply from the well of life I now know that I will able to face the darkness which all of us must face I smile - knowing that the years(to quote Pythagoras) are but the stream I go fishing in

Matt, it's sad, isn't it? I think you and I are about the same age. I noticed gravity taking a toll on my face about five years ago It's been downhill ever since (haha) I am doing everything in my power: Prescription strength retinol and even face aerobics. Waiting for dollars to float down from heaven so I can get plastic surgery when I turn 70. Yeah, like that will happen. Oh, well, we can only do out best!!!

This is a beautiful poem, Matthew. The acceptation of our mortality, and cherishing that life that we still have. I've been pondering on this subject quite a lot lately. To touch the face of death in this lifetime and live to tell the tale is special. Perhaps you have a grip on life that very few possess. Always, Laura
