Eye Light
That night the lake was riddled with starlight
pinioned a million times to the iron face of space
The water was so clear it could reflect its own eyes
fish-eyes and the drowned watched from its towering depth
The long dissolved had transformed themselves
into the luminous optics of an adamantine mind
We stood watching the light-show hidden by our own shadows
our gaze filming the lake surfaces with a certain sheen
a membrane just opaque enough to be read
if we only understood how the eternal spoke
