Expectation of Innocence
I look into the eyes of babes
They exude the expectation of innocence
They trust
It somehow gives me comfort
A reminder that innocence does still exist in this world
As my smile reveals my heart
I try and recall my own
And ponder
Could it live within me still
At least the ability to recognize it
To appreciate it
To protect it
And while I'm unsure what my looking glass would betray
I am hopeful
