Equations
Thank God the Earth's movements--its spinning
and revolving, and all actions in, on, and around it--
do not depend upon my comprehension of equations.
I was bombarded by them in various high-school and
college classes, in which I wore a perpetually perplexed
expression and asked questions--when I knew enough
to put together a halfway lucid question.
These classes affected my prayer life. The most common
plea of that time was, "God, please give me a desire to
learn this stuff--and to actually learn it. Please help the
professor to get way down here on my level."
Equations were/are formulated to enable us to grasp
concepts such as gravity, linear systems, the Pythogorean
Theorem, Cantor's Theorem, variational principle, energy,
mass, and speed of light (just listing these has caused
me to stare blankly) and, my favorite, Pi. Studying this
concept always brought on vivid daydreams about pie,
usually cherry, with a mound of vanilla bean ice cream.
