Empty Nest Contest

Empty nest, I'll miss all the messing I'm glad I know this time is a blessing It's repetitive shouting "please get dressed" I'll miss all the messing, empty nest Joyful sounds, drift through the home Better than a clock like a metronome Enjoying here as much as playgrounds Drift through the home, joyful sounds Toys everywhere, no room for me I don't need peace to drink a cup of tea All beautiful signs you are there No room for me, toys everywhere Watching you grow, things change Needing me less feels strange Every version of you a pleasure to know Things change, watching you grow Tick and tock, time to watch TV Asking each other who wants tea We'll surely want to turn back the clock Time to watch TV, tick and tock Empty Nest Poetry Contest 14th May 2023 Sponsored by: Cooper Etheridge

Wow! Congrats! Thanks for sharing this... exposing "Empty nest" predicament in your expressive poetic style... So delighted am I with your first two lines: "Empty nest, I'll miss all the messing I'm glad I know this time is a blessing." God bless you.

A lovely poem DD. Congrats on your podium place my friend. See you ARE a master of the swap quatrain, but why call it free verse ?

Thanks SV, not sure now. It was either a rule of the contest or I thought I'd chanced a rhyme. Thanks for your support x

fortunate to have all of ours nearby. It is sometimes relaxing to return to the "empty" nest.

It set my mind thinking to some of your poems - now I don't know if the cat and dog were fictional :)

When the children grow up and leave to make the nest empty we "want to turn back the clock". So true. Nicely penned.
