Embracing the Line

I can not speak for everyone Let's call this my opinion Back in the day, my old fashioned dad Ruled over his dominion He set forth rules, an imaginary line, And we, as subordinates, embraced Frequently, boys being boys, We'd stray then beg for grace A leather belt, a boat paddle Whatever was within his reach Discipline is the word he used Whenever that line was breached We learned, too well, to embrace that line Or face serious consequences It seems, these days, there is no line Apparently there's not even trenches. an original poem by Daniel Turner

Daniel, you must have grown up in my life time, children should be seen not heard. The leather belt was used a lot then kneeling for hours should had said my rosary at the time I would have gotten a lot. Good luck in the contest a 7 hugs.

Mrs eve, those were the best of times and not the worst of times. If I didn't get a whipping for two or three days, I went and ask for one because I knew the next one was going to be a bad one if I didn't. Thank you for stopping by. LOL

Yup. It's easy to do a relatively good job parenting these days, which isn't going to spare us the upcoming disaster.

Great poem, enjoyed the message, sadly you are right. Sick of Gen Y, everything is owed to them mentality. Should have had a good smack like my kids got

I'll bet your kids have some respect for others and you also. Thank you for your support and kind comments.

I truly agree with this. Love the way you express it in these lines. Yes it's sad and from my experience from working with kids alot of them are fatherless. So you have the mom playing both roles which can be very difficult. Excellent write.

Thank you, pace. I appreciate the supporting comments and your friendly visit. Yes and a lot of times when they try to discipline their kids, they wind up in jail. I don't condone beatings with fists but a good whipping across the ass never hurt anyone,( except their pride maybe)

Daniel, you have more than hit that nail on the head and did it with a truth sledgehammer! Yes, times are different but respect and discipline never change! the best to you in this contest!

Walter, I actually feel sorry for kids these days, as boundaries are not enforced. I never was crazy about raising my dad's anger but I did learn respect. Thank you for the friendly visit and your support.

Excellent poem, Daniel, about embracing the line'. Yes, this was the norm in the 'old days' and most times, those lines were not crossed. We do live in a different world today... Best wishes for the contest. 7 Sandra

What used to be called discipline is now a crime. I still say, not everything changes for the better. Thank you for the lovely visit Mrs Sandra. I really value your opinion.

Thank you Probir, I suppose you would have to be a certain age to understand as we do. I appreciate your support and the friendly visit.
