Elvis Contest - Always On My Mind

You were always on my mind You were always on my mind Now just a figment of imagination For I fear I never knew you well Should we have one of our pretend conversations I risk being caught under your spell You were always on my mind You were always on my mind My memory plays tricks on me You weren't the one that I recall What we seemed to have could never be For nothing there was real at all You were always on my mind You were always on my mind Tell me, tell me how you loved me but you lied Give me, this chance to forget you and your pride You were always on my mind You were always on my mind Please stand here before me once again Let me remember what I should How I cried and felt I was to blame But it was you who was just no good You were always on my mind You were always on my mind There was never a sweet love that died It was all just my projection I need to move on now the tears have dried Not try to recast you as perfection You were always on my mind You were always on my mind Now just a figment of my imagination It's true I never knew you well Time to embrace this liberation And let all thoughts of you dispel You were always on my mind It's over forever this time You were always on my mind Elvis Presley Inspiration Poetry Contest 12th May 2023 Sponsored by: Robert James Liguori You Were Always on my Mind

That turned the original on its head DD....leaving no doubt where you are coming from and where he should go. I don't know where you get all the inspiration from to launch into these challenges. Enjoyed....

Thanks Paul, I just start writing and see what happens. I find the contests a fun prompt into possibly writing in a new direction that I wouldn't necessarily try otherwise. Thanks for you comment

The original song was written and sang by Willie Nelson. A classic! Your version is almost a complete opposite, DD. You picked a tough song to rewrite. Good luck:) Happy Mother's Day.

I tried several. They are all impossible to rewrite as quite a few are carried by the singing or classics. I just decided to have a go anyway (sorry Willie Nelson, Elvis and The Pet Shop Boys! Haha)
