Eclipse
When darkness shrouded sea and earth and sky,
And people thought their death had come, their doom,
When sun had turned to dark and death was nigh,
And over all the world did darkness loom;
When that dark circle covered overhead
The sun, and all her golden rays were black,
When all had thought the world would soon be dead,
When they had thought that God had turned his back;
Not knowing that between the earth and sun
Had come the moon, but only for an hour,
They thought the end of life had then begun,
They thought the golden sun had lost its power.
All prayed then with their hearts and not just lips,
Not knowing it was only an eclipse.
