A dragonfly once lit upon my shoulder
and listened to my every heart’s desire.
It carried all my wishes to realms bolder
cross golden skies with evening sunbeam fire.
It spanned the yellow marshes in the morning
the air beneath his four wings lifting high
and bearing all my daydreams and adorning
it took off to the yonder azure sky.
It's body was the temple of my yearning,
a keep safe just for heaven’s waiting ears.
It told them that my tender heart is burning
and please remove the pain from all the years.
A dragonfly once lit upon my shoulder
but that occurred so very long ago.
Time has passed and I have gotten older
and all the things I hoped for I now know.
