Don'T Fret It - Write It

lives clogged with gadgetry like drains on overflow young minds scurried atop tech pitchforks that never know a garden hand extensions clutching spectacles of risk, cat airs or lost direction sites that numb and slacken awareness like selfies that nix the problem of real-time interaction web meandering connections that blunt kooky-cool love midst screens clutched in hands like roses because one can't perceive layers of worth beneath where influencers babble in throwaway buying under a stupefying list of 'likes' under images of self interest sometimes tic-toc addiction, time distracting to steal showtime moments like trees pressed against a multi-colored sky or the under valued stillness of reading oh to chew up the grid of "cells" that flicker the world in luminosity, stark and fraying Poem composed June 14, 2023

Too much cell phone use makes us so impatient with other things. Your poem is so relevant Brian. Kids need to climb trees, make forts, play with their friends for hours in the snow, sand or leaves, play board games where one lost, one won and not everyone got a trophy. Sad to see bookstores closing and babies in shopping carts holding cell phones, isn't it? I appreciated this poem Brian and I'm glad I found it.

Hi Marikate, I may preach against at what sometimes grips me. Limiting cellphone time is a must, and giving YouTube a side step a given. Thank you for your thoughtful appraisal of my posting. Bookstore closings are sad indeed. I hope that you are well. Brian

The youngsters are addicted to cell phones and similar gadgets and they lose connections with the real world. Indeed, "lives are clogged with gadgerty" ! Great poem with profound thoughts, Brian

My appreciation for your most supportive message, Valsa. So many folks fall into the void of cell phone oblivion but such is the way of the world. A true shame. Be well. Cheers, Brian

I like your semi-abstract take on the "Don't Fight It - Write It" prompt, Brian. Promoting awareness about the dangers of using mobile phones while driving is important. Best regards // paul

We live in a culture of "like without reading", where we are told what to think and not how to think and where many people appear to be bent walking with heads bowed like the characters in an L.S. Lowry painting. And we wonder why so many people have difficulty concentrating and have poor attention spans. Less is more. Great write Brian.

Hi Gary, You are so right - concentration is lost through gadget addiction - and there is a pandemic of it. My final stanza refers to a myriad of "cells" - not simply the wireless age. Thank you for your supportive message + insight. Regards always, Brian

Creative entry to the contest. It reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. No matter how much technology comes forth with new terms, it still won't anywhere nearly touch the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Thanks for sharing this one and for dropping by my page. Sara

Hello Sara, thank you for your message. It may be that cellphone addiction lacks originality as a topic + may not register for recognition. I appreciate your vote of confidence. Be well. Brian
