Do You Love Me

Do you love me enough, am I dear, Do you hold me most precious of all? In the quiet spaces of your heart, Do you make it known, is it clear To the one you love? If death's quick call Should suddenly tear us apart Leaving no time for a sad farewell, Would you feel you had nothing to tell Of things you wish you had said before? Could you have said more? Do you love me enough? How swift the years fly, Faster and suddenly they fade away; And each one carries its dead With no words left when we cry. Soft words to be whispered another day, May never be done or said. Speak gently to me in my listening ear, And know I want you to be always near. Don't wait till I go to the grave, For the time to tell me of love is brief; And long is the silence of our grief, Do you love me enough to be brave?

Every lover, every breath should respond to this urgency - a religion could be built upon the good sense of this poem Lizzie - J.A.B. %

I read your most recent thoughts you gifted me in "Making Plans" and this echos that sadness in that we never know what tomorrow may bring. Have we said enough, done enough and loved enough before the clock runs out? Please - tell me that you love me before its too late! You've done it again with this deep and lovely poem and continue to keep me coming back for more.

Yes, I had read this lovely verse. The sanctity of now, whose ecstasy reverberates with the warmness of love. The greatest deficits, within the treasures of love, are the unspoken words that get lost on their journey from the heart to the tongue in the fog of anger and fear. Next, read my, "Grand Canyon".

I almost cried reading that ending line! Arguably a great question prosed into one poetic line! Are you brave enough to tell me that you love me because life is to short and death creates no second chance...a deep and terrific accomplishment of writng. I Love You Liz : )

A grand poem. We always walk that tight rope between feeling safe and loved and wondering.

WOWSER! Elizabeth, this is just fantastic, haunting and well versed. I liked your first stanza but LOVED your second. The last four lines? Chilling, in a good way. Keep on writing, type type type... :-) smiles from Cyndi
