Distress Message
An empty tear bottle,
and a wine glass overflowing
with grief
Problem dissolving tablets,
disappearing permanently
Scarlet lipstick note
smeared
on the bathroom mirror cabinet
Distress message too late received
Depression driven exit,
crash the perfect marriage party
Materialistic illusion of happiness ...
daydreams for Members Only
of a privileged society
Corporate evenings of pleasure pageantry
She was the better half
of the couple everybody wanted to be —
Oscar and Toni
Dress rehearsals were always boring,
but the secret,
profanity-laced arguments
blush added
needed hush spice to the make-up sessions
Being discarded physically
for a nubile copy,
crushed her psyche emotionally
Cougar pride was dashed on the rocks;
and martini chiffon memories soaking up the pain,
gave her fading vanity fleeting, lush vitality again
But every successful diva craves attention ...
missing the adulation,
the retired ones need extra
And if not given starlet recognition ,
there’s got to be
a final heroine act ending tragically
Old beauty contest trophy winner,
never desired that shy young girl anonymity
Now forever, obituary famous —
Damsel’s wrist distress,
a blood simple blurred message ...
was deciphered to be much too late received
