Discernments On Manhood
I come of age soon
On another birthday
But manhood like the moon
Though ripe
Is far away.
I am not wine
Aged by time
In a bottle, floating on the sea
Of inebriated desire
I am
Who I am
More than a vessel of desire
A man should break
No promises
And hold his vision
Like a star
In a telescopes focus
Flying upward in faith
For we are born
To be astronauts.
A man should walk in the sunshine
Of his gardens
And dance in the music
Of his children's eyes
Because they are proud
To honor him
Like he always has honored their mother
Even she fed him
Nothing but peanut butter.
I come of age
When my quest is done
When all the shadows
Like footsteps before me fall
And I follow
Knowing I had dreams
And I did them all
No service
Sitting in the pall.
